Moose Nugget Regatta

Midnight Sun’s competitive rowers look forward each year this two-day event held in July on Lake Wasilla in Wasilla, AK. Hosted by the Anchorage Rowing Association, these 1,000m, side-by-side, sprint races are packed with fun and excitement. It’s a great venue for families and gives us a chance to catch up with our Anchorage and Kenai Crewser friends. Click on the link above for more info and past results.

Mackey Challenge

In the winter of 2014, Coach Saylor and her husband, Jonathan, were having a discussion regarding Juniors, team building, and regattas. The conversation landed on the observation that on regatta day there is a lot of standing around. Being an old baseball coach with lots of tricks up his sleeve, a part of Jonathan’s success with his teams was his organization of practices. There was no standing around on his watch. And the Mackey Challenge was born! It is solely for Juniors with an emphasis on team building. We further the fun by mixing-and-matching Anchorage and Midnight Sun kids into teams of four. The first activity filled day of rowing related on-land activities as well as one-the-water racing was held in 2015. It is a tradition we hope to continue and expand upon in the future.
